Grateful Nation by Glendon Place finished!

Well, I finally finished it. Sure, it took me almost 3 years, but hey, work and nursing school got in the way a bit. I've only been stitching this since sometime late last year so I could finish it and since nursing school is on break for the summer, I could concentrate on it fully. I was hoping to finish it for my grandfather's 80th birthday, but I didn't make it.

You see, back in 2004, I made one for my other grandfather for his service in the military. It was important to me to let them know I appreciated it. My brother is in the military and so is my husband and when they get around those two, they start talking about when they served. It was one of the first pieces I completed after having a long break from stitching anything! Here was the original piece I did for my other grandfather:



The grandfather I gave the above to is a man of few words. He thanked me but other than that didn't say much and at first I was worried that he didn't like it. But then as more and more people showed up at my grandparents' house that day, he showed it to everyone who came! Then I knew that he really enjoyed it. It now hangs on the living room wall at my grandparents' home. I happened to finish it just before his 80th birthday.

My other grandfather is younger and so I hoped to finish the one I was doing for him by his 80th. He is much more emotional and I have a feeling that I will know the moment he gets it how much he appreciates it. So here it is:



I changed the word "Soldier" to Sailor since he was navy and I am sending it off today to be framed. I can't wait to get it back and will be sure to post a pic of it framed.

I will now be moving on to Nora Corbett's Trick or Treat fairy since it's closest to being finished! Now I can finally include a 2011 finishes on the sidebar! WOO!
