Purple Rain

So, I watched this movie last night. It came out in 1984 and I was 9. I must have originally watched it sometime in my early college years because my parents were sticklers for the no watching rated R movie until I was 17 thing. I love Prince though and recently have gotten back into a lot of his songs, so I figured it was a great time to watch it!

I didn't quite remember the topic of this film being about abuse and the sexual overtone of the movie must have flown over my head back in college. Maybe it was more like I was embarrassed about the overtones because I was fairly innocent back then. And maybe it stuck out more due to my hubby being deployed I'm picking up on that more? Could be! ;) I nearly shut Purple Rain off last night when he smacked his little woman because I can't stand to watch movies with that kind of theme (though I understand where the story was supposed to go being that he saw his dad doing it, but don't you think stopping his dad from beating up his mom would make him stop his own hand when it flew??). I was also pretty surprised how quick she came back to him after, too. However, I stuck it out because hey...it's Prince!

Several thoughts ran through my head throughout this movie and I just had to share because I swear I giggled myself to sleep last night thinking of all this (and no, I did not partake of any alcoholic beverages before or during the film).

1. Those pants he wore, where the waist is nearly to his armpits? How fast do you think he had to work to get those off when he had to pee?

2. That man can dance in high heels better than I can walk in them!

3. How is it that he can dress so flamboyantly and yet still be so damn sexy?!?! (and somehow David Bowie is hot in Labyrinth too, isn't he??)

4. Speaking of the Labyrinth, how come Beautiful Ones from Purple Rain reminds me so much of Within You from Labyrinth?

5. Did he invent "guyliner"? Because you didn't see many guys with eyeliner like that back then. Now all the emo bands are doing it!

6. Speaking of makeup, did you see those strange men in the crowd wearing sparkly eyeshadow? I do not remember this being a fad in 1984, but then again, I grew up in a small town so maybe that's why.

I'm sure there was more, but I can't remember. I almost literally got up to get a pen and paper because these thoughts were running through my mind! Man, do I still love his music though! He's amazing!
